I have the same problem on an HP I opened a bug report a couple of weeks ago 301081. Ubuntu was on a spare drive for me so I just reinstalled the Vista drive. Its an Xmas present and M'lady will freak out if she walks away from the laptop for a few minutes and then has to cold boot to get the thing running again.
