I think I may be experiencing the same thing with my Dell E series Latitude Notebook. I get what sounds like static when using ALSA, but it works fine using OSS. The static is rather consistent in nature (kind of sounds like rain static generated on a HF yagi ham radio antenna) which may mean I have a different bug.
