Yeah, so I can confirm the backlight doesn't work with Ubuntu's proprietary driver (one that it installs with), fglrx, and radeonhd. The problem is that Vista gives me twice the battery life of Ubuntu just because it dims the backlight, Ubuntu is kind of unusable for me unless I am on a charger.
I am a novice when it comes to Ubuntu but I am guessing the problem lies with the hardware not being recognized.
