This bug affects me too! But nothing returns when you logoff, just the applications that are added on the sessions. The button "Remember Currently Running Application" does nothing, and the check box "automatically remember running applications(...)" don't remeber nothing too. On last Ubuntu (8.04) this used to work very good, until remembering the positions of the windows in the desktops
