it could just be your cpu throttling down differently in linux than windows. Check the cpufreq applet in the gnome bar or cat /proc/cpuinfo. Basically 65% of 800MHz is better for power savings than ~25% of 2.26GHz (in my case), so linux throttles down the cpu b/c it can get away with it with the ondemand governor. Also, use of compiz and video drivers and such may affect it.
