** Description changed: I've been chasing my tail on this and nothing seems to help. I've reinstalled version 8.10 6 times now thinking that maybe I screwed something up with trying everything everyone has told me to do. I got a clean video (though I have zero control while playing) by using this command, export DVDCSS_METHOD=title && mplayer dvd:// I have no clue as to why, no one seems to be able to tell me either. All I keep getting is EVERYONE telling me it's a codec issue. It can't be if i can get it to play via that code. it has to be a bug somewhere, a program not using the codec right or something. Here is my other thread on the subject, swept under the rug I guess, --> http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1009052 I have literally tried everything that I have found related to CSS, DVD playback and read over 500 different posts. Nothing has changed. + + All players work via the command line, "player name dvd ://" (e.g. vlc + dvd://) but not from anything GUI. + + j...@ubuntu:~$ lsb_release -a + No LSB modules are available. + Distributor ID: Ubuntu + Description: Ubuntu 8.10 + Release: 8.10 + Codename: intrepid + + j...@ubuntu:~$ uname -a + Linux ubuntu 2.6.27-7-generic #1 SMP Tue Nov 4 19:33:20 UTC 2008 i686 GNU/Linux
