This isn't just a compositing/compiz problem or a 3D problem. I get horrible performance with just plain old xterms under metacity. Whatever is in 2.5.1 (-ubuntu5) driver is a huge step backwards from Intrepid. Tested on a GM965 at 1400x1050.
