Public bug reported:
Booting Ubuntu 8.10, after the startup display, the screen turns blank black.
Then a Red 'OUT OF RANGE' window appears. A few seconds later, the sound of one
Ubuntu drum beat is herd. Now. by entering a few times the username and
password. with the screen still black, the startup process is completed.
