This is still a problem with pidgin 1:2.5.2-0ubuntu1 (Intrepid). It happens both with a line of characters(without spacing) and a random paragraph containing spaces and new lines.
The bug also appears in the "saved statuses" dialog (right-click status icon > Change status > Saved...) when trying to delete a saved status, especially if there is no spacing in the text. Attaching three screenshots. 1.png shows the issue in the Saved Statuses dialog. 2.png shows the issue in the Change Status menu. I also noticed that if i use a 252+ character text without spacing, the box appearing in the Change Status menu is totally blank.
