I wanted to add a comment here as one of the VirtualBox developers. >From my point of view, the second solution offered by Martin in comment 53 - using ACLs to make certain devices available - sounds like a good one. However, since the OS probably can't guess in advance which devices the user will want available in a VM, and making all devices available is probably not a good idea, it would be very nice if the user had some way of choosing devices.
