Public bug reported: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.27-9-generic
The network driver et131x causes ksoftirqd to use ~10 % cpu at all times (even if not connected). After unloading the module cpu usage drops back to normal (i. e. near zero). If I reload the module again, cpu usage stays low. This problem persists in all 2.6.27 kernels, perhaps even before. dmesg output concerning et131x during startup: [ 31.664534] et131x 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [ 31.664546] et131x 0000:04:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 No output when unloading. dmesg output for "modprobe et131x": [166277.989073] et131x 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 17 (level, low) -> IRQ 17 [166277.989101] et131x 0000:04:00.0: setting latency timer to 64 [166277.999872] [<ffffffffa04e0d8f>] et131x_rx_dma_memory_alloc+0x25f/0x5e0 [et131x] [166277.999886] [<ffffffffa04dc170>] et131x_adapter_memory_alloc+0x40/0x80 [et131x] [166277.999899] [<ffffffffa04dc988>] et131x_pci_setup+0x248/0x510 [et131x] [166277.999958] [<ffffffffa04e3bb6>] et131x_pci_probe+0xe/0x12 [et131x] [166278.000107] [<ffffffffa04dc010>] ? et131x_init_module+0x0/0x10 [et131x] [166278.000139] [<ffffffffa04dc010>] ? et131x_init_module+0x0/0x10 [et131x] [166278.000166] [<ffffffffa04dc010>] ? et131x_init_module+0x0/0x10 [et131x] [166278.000191] [<ffffffffa04dc010>] ? et131x_init_module+0x0/0x10 [et131x] [166278.000203] [<ffffffffa04dc0f3>] et131x_pci_register+0x23/0x30 [et131x] [166278.000216] [<ffffffffa04dc01e>] et131x_init_module+0xe/0x10 [et131x] [166278.014349] et131x 0000:04:00.0: PCI INT A disabled The problem seems to be that et131x causes wakeups from processor sleep states 250 times per second. After my next reboot I will attach infomation from powertop where this can be seen. ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- high cpu usage with et131x https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/308705 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
