It seems even more feasible that some networking problem causes the freeze: without an active network connection, it never occured. I am using a Huawei E272 cellular 3G modem connected via USB. It sometimes stop working: it reports to be online, but no network activity goes through it. If I request suspend in such a situation, the freeze occurs. If I request disconnection and suspend after, the freeze does not happen.
