Tks Hew McLachlan As i said before I have an Acer 4002WLMI. Previously I tried Ubuntu embedded on XP. Ubuntu ran very well, as I then saw. After I decided to remove XP and install Ubuntu 10.4 using one DVD shipped by Canonical. Ran OK. Latter decided to upgrade to 8.10 via Internet. With this version the laptop does not switch off when I click for that. The switch-off process runs normally until the bar under the Ubuntu Logo disappears. It stays on these image for long. After that it shows "acpi exiting" and stops forever. I must press the power button. The action "Sleeping" also does not work properly. So, I low graded to 8.04 and asked Canonical for a 8.10 DVD. Finally, after the installation via original DVD the problems with 8.10 are the same. I am a beginner on Linux, so I would appreciate your help IPereira
