I tried reproducing the bug using the Jaunty Alpha-2 live cd. I can report a few interesting findings.
Startup (initial) configuration works fine. It properly detects both monitors and configures them as "mirror" where the image is cropped on the smaller (wide-screen) monitor. This is expected behaviour to me. Reconfiguration of monitors shows detection works fine. All modes are properly detected and configurable (at this point) in the utility. Now, when I configure the two screens side-by-side and apply settings I get a message that xorg.conf must be modified and I must relogin. After relogin the system freezes (hard) at random point while the desktop is loading. I have tried this with the latest updates, no change. Perhaps this issue should be reported elsewhere? 2008/12/20 Bryce Harrington <br...@bryceharrington.org>: > > [This is an automatic notice.] > > We'd like to forward your bug upstream, however upstream requires > that you first test it against their newer driver code. > > To save you the effort of building the driver from source, we've built > packages for the driver and its new dependencies. > > So you have a couple options: > > 1.
