I encountered a problem with it : it breaks compatibility with real legacy grub.
My grub is installed in (hd0), with its stages and a simple menu.lst (attached) 
kept appart from any distribution. As I did not use chain-loading, but only 
configfile instead, it was failing to boot (uuid myuuid not understood and 
skipped by my grub).
However, this patch is somehow important as it could also fix once for all the 
old/historical errata entry in Debian 
(http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/errata.en.html : Disk devices may 
change on reboot).
It breaks full compatibility, and as Grub legacy is no longer being officially 
developed, I believe an effort should be made to merge it with other 
distributions.
