Tormod: As the person who originally filed this bug, I have to report that Ericw's suggestion to switch down to AGP x4 in bios works!
I used the default Install/Live Desktop option, not the Safe Graphics mode. I did not make any changes to xorg.conf or anywhere else. Moving from AGP x8 to x4 was all that was needed. Ericw, thank you. Another workaround found and hopefully one that will help move us forward in nailing the root of the bug down and patching it up. Tormod, what do you think?
