Make sure there wasnt a typo, sudo dpkg -configure -a
This command will install the packages. Prsonaly I would use sudo apt-get 
upgrade it will automaticly finish the "broken" packages, Please post the 
output of the dpkg command also the upgrade command.please add the commands you 
ran
