Thanks. My gut reaction is that it is a hal issue. We've seen a variety of situations where for one reason or another hal wasn't running and it produced symptoms quite like what you described. You might try shutting down hal and see if that reproduces the problem for you.
Of course, we'd also greatly appreciate if you'd test jaunty just in case.
