>From your screenshot it looks like your window manager crashed (you don't have the top row of the window containing the window title and the minimize, maximize, quit buttons). You can check your system monitor and check what happened to "compiz" (the default window manager in 8.10). There were some early versions of 8.10 in which compiz crashed repeatedly but this is fixed by now. Otherwise I don't know why your window manager might have crashed.
