The good thing is I will not need to file new bugs against all of these
packages. It is clearly a very generalized display problem and I now
fear that many of the previous bugs I filed or subscribed to, where
actually the same thing.

These are:
compiz.real
compiz-plugins
metacity
pulseaudio
gnome-login-sound

and possibly more

I cannot start any new application that requires a gui. Therefore nano
and cat work just fine.

I have currently running:

1 firefox
2 nautilus
1 root gnome-terminal
1 1000 gnome-terminal
1 'firefox-download-manager' thingy

Next are valgrind and strace.
