The bug is marked as Invalid, but the problem reported here still exists in Intrepid, Evolution 2.24.2.
The comment above suggests that there is a duplicate, but does not refer to it. It is not a duplicate of https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/187977, because that refers to a > sign after the signature, whereas this bug refers to a > sign added in front of 'From'.
