Public bug reported: Some time ago, I did some research about the way Ubuntu uses screen real estate. I posted the results here:
http://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/7kn5y/is_it_just_me_or_do_nix_des_do_a_horrible_job_at/14xg It turns out that Ubuntu is roughly on par with OS X, but only because the OS X Dock eats up a lot of space there. MS Windows makes the best use of screen real estate when Ubuntu, OS X and Windows are compared. Ubuntu's chrome/widgets tend to be a bit more wasteful with screen real estate than their Windows counterparts. And of course Ubuntu shows two panels in the default configuration. I'm posting this but to bring the above research to your attention; it's more of a feature request/strategic vision but than anything else, and fixing it would be all about delivering the best usability involving fonts, the default theme, GNOME, and the configuration of all of these. I did the comparisons with Ubuntu 8.10. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Compared to some well-known other OSes, Ubuntu makes less efficient use of screen real estate (when in default configuration). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/317867 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
