** Description changed:

New Ubuntu user, using Feisty 7.04, 2.6.20-16-generic on an Athlon XP
  1800+, 512 MB RAM, MSI KT3 Ultra2-R mobo.

I'm seeing a frozen mouse pointer on startup, This happens in about one
  out of every ten startups.

The mouse is a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical USB, plugged directly into
the system ports. It works fine in XP. Before installing Ubuntu, I ran
OpenSUSE 10.2 for about 2 weeks and didn't see this problem.

If I login, the pointer remains frozen on the desktop. The mouse is lit
however and the buttons work. Clicking the right button brings up the
desktop context menu. It just doesn't respond to movement. Physically
unplugging and reinserting the mouse will get the thing working

I'm working around the problem by switching to a terminal at login and doing a
  sudo modprobe -r uhci_hcd
  modprobe uhci_hcd

Once I switch back to the GUI, the pointer moves.

  This is /var/log/dmesg
