Evertjan Garretsen: I suggest you to install a stable distribution like Ubuntu Intrepid. With that you can go sure, that the problem is in the radeonhd driver. Be sure that you do not install fglrx/catalyst. Now please install the radeonhd driver, create the minimal xorg.conf, select the radeonhd driver and start x with logverbose 7 and provide the log. :)
