Please mark this bug as invalid on shared-mime-info and file a separate bug for application/msword-template if you don't like it, because that mimetype not complying to IANA rules is completely irrelevant to this bug, which is about OO.o MIME package overriding shared-mime-info descriptions with completely bogus ones.
** Summary changed: - non legal IANA mimetype name for Word document template mime type + Wrong description for Word documents and Excel spreadsheets ** Description changed: Binary package hint: openoffice.org - /usr/share/mime/packages/openoffice.org-common.xml (line 63) which is installed with OO.o defines the mimetype "application/msword" with the description "Word document template". This causes all Word documents (both *.doc and *.dot) to be described as "Word document template in Nautilus. - <mime-type type="application/msword"> - <comment>Word document template</comment> - <glob pattern="*.dot"/> - </mime-type> + /usr/share/mime/packages/openoffice.org-common.xml (line 63) which is + installed with OO.o defines the mimetype "application/msword" with the + description "Word document template". This causes all regular Word + documents to be described as "Word document template" in Nautilus, while + actual Word templates are described as "Word template". Another entry in + this file says that the description for "application/vnd.ms-excel" is + "Excel 2007 VBA add-in", which causes all Excel spreadsheets to be + described as Excel 2007 VBA add-ins. (!) - The solution is to remove this part of the file altogether. + Those parts of the file have to be removed, because they conflict with + the shared-mime-info definition. - shared-mime-info defined its own application/msword-template mimetype - instead of using application/x-msword-template for unknown reason as its - not a IANA mimetype. + This is NOT related in ANY way to the application/msword-template + mimetype not being IANA compliant. ** Changed in: openoffice.org (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged => Confirmed -- Wrong description for Word documents and Excel spreadsheets https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294677 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
