I should add that when I mean it didn't work at all, I mean it came up
with the dialog that says:

audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audioresample !
gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback.

One difference from before (at least I believe it is different) is that
I don't have to unplug and plug the card in until I want to use it after
sleep.  Before, I was unplugging, then sleeping, then awaking, then
plugging back in.  Now I just unplug and replug and it then works again.
