Thanks for checking up on me. Actually I reinstalled Ubuntu just today. I had mistakenly deleted the Ubuntu partition on my HD and couldn't even boot up Vista. So in desperation I reinstalled the Ubuntu OS and it restored everything. Then I had to install the flash plugins to Firefox and that did the trick! I surmise that previously there was some glitch in the plugin that prevented the playback of video clips. This was strange, because I had surely installed and reinstalled the flash plugins to no avail. Anyway all's well that ends well. Thanks again.

No video clip shows up, nor is there any content in the area around the playback area, such as other video clips of interest. It works fine in Windows.
