wodim does not properly support DVD media because the mature DVD support code from the original software has been replaced by something half baken in wodim.
Wodim is no option for two reasons: wodim does not correctly support DVD media and wodim cannot be legally distributed - wodim is in conflcit with GPL and Copyright. growisofs seems to have problems with DVD-RW media and I would guess that you cannot give any garantee for a possible fix.
