Wanted to mention that the problem of BIOS disabled devices being loaded also occurs in Ubuntu 8.04 LTS used on an IBM Thinkpad T21.
The Infrared device is disabled in BIOS but is loaded and assigned an IRQ on Ubuntu boot. This caused the wireless pcmcia card to not function properly with an IRQ conflict between the the phantom IR device and wireless card. Noticed when trying to troubleshoot the wireless card problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6611153#post6611153 Workaround (for a functioning wireless) was to enable the device, although Ubuntu decided to disable the device as seen in the attached dmesg-ir-enabled.log. Enabling the IR in BIOS and setting the device to irq 4 however caused a kernel panic. ** Attachment added: "dmesg.log with ir disabled in bios" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/21699925/dmesg.log -- Dirvers are loaded for devices that are disabled in the bios https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/267411 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list [email protected] https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
