This happend to me just after upgrading to Intrepid, i.e. to KDE 4. Worked ok on KDE 3. I'm using ubuntu, not kubuntu. Other KDE applications (checked Konsole, Konqueror, Kdevelop, Kword, Ark) are ok. All those applications were installed prior to upgrade, and this did not happen to them.
