I logged a bug for Jaunty about this, then found a temporary fix at least. I found that If I searched the repositories using synaptic for all nvidia drivers I found many versions but I needed nvidia-glx-180-dev package. I installed it, ran the hardware driver gui again and bingo it loaded the correct driver up, and activated it.
I presume that by the time April comes the GUI will simply find it in the repositories. (I don't know anything about the code running the GUI but maybe that's what will happen) so go have a look to see what Nvidia-glx versions you have and install the appropriate ones.
