The kernel has its own metapackages, built from linux-meta, one of which is installed by default.
Adding a generic kernel to an ubuntu-meta metapackage would penalize users who install a different kernel, by keeping an additional kernel on the system (they're large). Fixing bug #11381 would make this somewhat more feasible, but still awkward. ubuntu-desktop doesn't provide any more warning than the kernel, but I think that's a separate issue (kernel packages should warn you if you're about to do something destructive) ** Bug 50397 has been marked a duplicate of this bug ** Changed in: ubuntu-meta (Ubuntu) Importance: Untriaged => Wishlist Status: Confirmed => Rejected -- ubuntu-desktop doesn't depend on any of linux-image meta package https://launchpad.net/bugs/51986 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
