I did have the wrong headers installed at the time.

What happened was I had the -proposed repository enabled, which installed
the newer linux-headers which confused jockey. Somebody at #ubuntu
eventually figured out that I had -proposed enabled, and gave me directions
on how to disable it and replace all its packages with standard packages.

I think it would help users diagnose this problem if jockey were a bit more
verbose about why it failed, as the solution wasn't too difficult once I
figured out what caused the problem
