Unsurprisingly, there are numerous reasons why Xorg could be using higher than normal CPU loads. In almost all cases, the cause is something other than X.
The reason for this is that X is a server, and just receives and acts on requests by client applications and services. These clients are able to use X lightly or heavily -- their choice; X will respond to the client requests as reliably and completely as it can. If a client is inefficiently coded and uses an algorithm that requires making heavier than typical X requests, the X server will dutifully serve but it can drive up the load. A lot of people are replying in this thread as having the "same problem". In truth you're having a similar symptom (high CPU load) but each of you could be seeing it for widely different reasons. Something that works for one guy isn't necessarily going to work for you, so asking "is it fixed yet" here is sort of silly. ;-) I've written a guide on how to troubleshoot these kinds of bugs. Please read this and file a NEW bug against the appropriate package (probably NOT xorg): https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/HighCPU -- xorg 10-20% cpu usage after intrepid upgrade, general system sluggishness https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294972 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
