By the way, the author of wpa_supplicant has confirmed that this is a problem with Network Manager. wpa_supplicant sends messages about state changes over D-Bus, and then Network Manager generates the logs based on those messages (nm-device-wifi.c ), though he feels there is no reason for NM to log these by default.
