Grub just boots off of the first kernel image in /boot/grub/menu.lst, if
you comment out the latest kernel image and recovery mode (by prefacing
the lines with #) grub will automatically boot into the first image
listed in that file.  I'd recommend backing up that file first, however,
in case something goes wrong.
