Quick fix, now that new NVIDIA drivers are in the Ubuntu repositories. sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx-180
It should uninstall the NVIDIA 177 driver and install the 180 version. Then reboot your machine and you should be using the new 180 version of the driver...
