I found out that enabling "Full Duplex" in the KDE System Settings->Sound System->Hardware and setting every control to the maximum, I can record sound from either the Front Mic or the Mic, depending on which one is selected as the input in alsamixer. However, the volume recorded is very low.
It works with arecord. It sometimes works with KRec.
