** Summary changed:

+ [i945] [jaunty] blank screen on resolution change

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Laptop has native panel resolution of 1400x1050 which works fine with a
  bare xorg.conf.

However if I try to change resolution (for example with xrandr -s
1024x768) I get a blank screen. I can restart gdm and login again but of
course I get the default resolution of 1400x1050.

This used to work even a couple of weeks ago, I could even add oddball
resolutions with xrandr --newmode and switch to it, so it's something
that's happened quite recently to break it.

Currently on 2.6.28-5 because the newer kernel oopses on boot - a known
  bug.
