I tried Option "RenderAccel" "False" in the device section, and /var/log/Xorg.0.log shows: (**) NVIDIA(0): Option "RenderAccel" "False" (**) NVIDIA(0): Disabling RENDER acceleration but with "extra" visual effects (i.e. Compiz enabled) there are still no window decorations and the text in gnome-terminal is missing. So, I probably have to wait for 96.43.10 to make it into Intrepid.
