i have the problem that rhythmbox cannot burn arbitrary collections of
songs to cd, but requires an actual playlist. is this covered by this
bug or should i open a new one?

PS: it is obviously covered by the upstream bug.

** Summary changed:

- rhythmbox cd burning is not intuitive
+ rhythmbox cd burning is not intuitive, requires creating a playlist

** Description changed:

+ right now it is not possible to burn albums or arbitrary collections of
+ songs from the library to an audio cd. you have to create a playlist in
+ order to burn the songs. this should be handled better.
+
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

  1)lsb_release -rd
  Description: Ubuntu 8.04.1
  Rekease: 8.04

  2)apt-cache policy rhythmbox
  0.11.5-0ubuntu8

  3) I expect to be able to right click on an album in the Album view and
select, "burn" or "create cd" or something like that.

  4) Right clicking on the album does nothing. I had to know to use the
shift key to select every song in the album and then right click the
selected list and choose Add to playlist -> New Playlist, give it a
name, find the playlist in the far left list, right click on that and
select Create Audio CD. Once it was done i had to also remove this
playlist to get back to the original state.

This seems pretty easy to fix and is not at all intuitive at the moment.
