Just noticed, on
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=blob_plain;f=Documentation/laptops
/acer-wmi.txt , the following lines:

"On Acer laptops, acer-wmi should already be autoloaded based on DMI matching.
For non-Acer laptops, until WMI based autoloading support is added, you will
need to manually load acer-wmi."

... are we wasting time?

(it would be strange anyway, since there _are_ non-acer laptops
registered in the driver!)
