Public bug reported: Whenever I upgrade a kernel on one of my boxes, file /boot/grub/menu.lst contains incorrect "root" entries, which results in machine not being able to boot by itselt. Correct line: root (hd0,0) Incorrect line: root (hd2,0)
Workaround is easy (menu.lst needs to be manually edited after kernel upgrade, I can also edit this thing after an error pops up while machine boots), although it could be a very serious problem for most people. Several things I could point up: * I'm not 100% sure, but I think the problem started appearing in Breezy (I started with hoary and never re-installed, it's been dist-upgrade every time a new version was released). * It's a SATA drive. Please tell me if you need specific information (and how to get it, I'm not able to do it myself without asking/searching for it). * This particular combination of mobo and hdd causes hdd to perform poorly in some aspects (much slower than IDE drives that I have). ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- kernel upgrade results in a wrong content of /boot/grub/menu.lst https://launchpad.net/bugs/76219 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
