Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

Steps to reproduce:

- Start Ubuntu Jaunty, listen to startup sound
- Alternatives: play any sound while moving the mouse or giving the cpu some
work (e.g. md5sum /dev/urandom)

Result:
Crackling noise, audio is not played "cleanly"

Further information:

- after pkilling pulseaudio, the problem disappears.

- worked well in intrepid and before.

- Hardware information: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M)
AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01)
(see attached lspci -v) on Thinkpad T42

This is not related to problems with incorrectly set output levels - I
checked them.

** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
