The ISA versions of this card do not automatically get detected or drivers installed (known case is on Dell GX1 series for instance). In these cases it will not appear in lspci or lsusb output, only in lshw. However, manually loading the driver, or having it load from /etc/modules during boot still works. For this, to try : echo "snd- cs4236" | sudo tee -a /etc/modules and it should work properly next boot. Please report back results for completeness.
