Got the same error while trying to shrink my windows partition and add the extra space to my hardy's /
Indeed, there are a lot of hardy install cds with an outdated gparted (mine was 0.3.5), so if you catch yourself in a middle of a resizing and got this, maybe this may help you: 1. Open a terminal from your liveCD, and then: > sudo su > resize2fs -f /dev/xxx where xxx is the code of the troublesome partition. Usually, you shouldn't force resizing, but provided that e2fsck went all ok, it worksaround the problem. As Raf, i think that the problem is with the checking in resize2fs, dont know if gparted people fixed that or did the force in its script.
