I can confirm that one of the latest security updates for Dapper disabled the nvidia driver on my son's computer. The error message said too it couldn't find the nvidia driver, so I switched back to the nv driver so now he doesn't have any DRI support for games anymore.... :-(
I probably need to reinstall the nvidia driver but I think the security updates should not deactivate any video drivers applied by the user.
