I've checked the irssi config, and it seems every time I add a channel, the last channel in the row gets 'kicked off'. This only occurs when I add the channel in irssi itself, so I've switched to adding the channels in the config file for now. It sounds like some sort of maximum was added in the loop that runs through the channel list.
