so - tried adding : # 91.189.88.35 is old-releases.ubuntu.com 91.189.88.35 us.archive.ubuntu.com to /etc/hosts to try and fool it ... did not work - so tried a command line wget to test: # wget http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty-backports/main/debian-installer/binary-i386/Packages.gz --21:59:35-- http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/feisty-backports/main/debian-installer/binary-i386/Packages.gz => `Packages.gz' Resolving us.archive.ubuntu.com... 91.189.88.35 Connecting to us.archive.ubuntu.com|91.189.88.35|:80... connected.
