Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

In Jaunty with 0.9.14-0ubuntu8 (also pulseaudio 0.9.15-test3) broke GDM
at start. I only can start Ubuntu with Gnome Failsafe!

File .xsession-errors and command pulseaudio show the same thing:

$ pulseaudio
I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE.
I: caps.c: Dropping root privileges.
I: caps.c: Limited capabilities successfully to CAP_SYS_NICE.
E: core-util.c: Failed to create secure directory: Permission denied

This seems a problem with authorization. If I grant permissions to
pulseaudio for me user and also root (with polkit-gnome-authorization) ,
the same errors is shown (see image attached).

When you start applications that use pulseaudio, this crash or freeze
(totem, firefox(youtube), etc).

Pulseaudio needs capabilities to work.

** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
